This
an ancient member of the family of healing arts, its roots going back

The
traditional theory of acupuncture is concerned with 'vital energy' or
'Qi'. This is thought to flow through the body, nourishing and maintaining
it, and is concentrated in channels called 'meridians'. By inserting fine
needles at specific points along these meridians, body functions can be
regulated and the restoration of health promoted.
|
A different way of using needles, often called 'dry needling' to distinguish if from the use of hypodermic syringes, has been developed. The theory is that shortened muscles can produce pain both locally and further afield in the body. These muscles have related sensitive areas called 'trigger points'. By inserting needles into these points this muscle shortening and its associated pain can be helped. | ||||||||||||||||
