Welcome to Bevois Town School
"A strong sense of community and a caring environment." (OFSTED)
Bevois Town School (pronounced "Beavers") is a primary school for children
aged 4 to 11. It is geographically on the edge of the inner city in
Southampton.
The school includes significant numbers of children from both the majority
and
the various minority communities of Southampton. Associated with the
school
is a playgroup, which recently received a good report from OFSTED.
For further
information please contact the Headteacher.
The behaviour of children at Bevois Town, both within the school and
in the local
community is a source of satisfaction. Children from the school are
well liked in
local shops and by the school's residential neighbours.
Working for Excellence
Following the decision of the June 1996 OFSTED Inspection to place the
school in the category of requiring special measures, the school has
been
working with Southampton City Education to raise standards in all those
areas identified. This has already produced results and the school
is advancing
steadily.
Our Standard Assessment Test results in 1997 exceed our own targets
at both
infants and junior levels in almost all areas tested.
Latest News
To improve security and efficiency we have plans to provide a new Reception
Area for visitors to the school. We are hopeful that resources will
be available
for this. School liaison with the Police has continued to be one of
the positive
aspects of our contact with others within the wider community. We have
also
had good contact with Mordaunt School, a local special school.
