You should notice that this tutorial is quite huge, that`s because it lays out a lot of basic principles which you will need for all future maps. I hope this isn`t TOO big for you all but I feels it`s needed to make sure you dont get lost and that you end up knowing what the hell you`ve just done.

A lot of you will want to refer to this tutorial again and again, don`t worry, it took me ages to get to grips with all the ideas here, but once you have them, you will fly through all the more advanced tutorials.


ok ... most tutorials tell you that the best way to start your first map is by making a box and turning it into a basic room ... I think that for CS, this is useless.

Your first map for CS has to be fully playable even if it is totally empty. So, we will make a big outdoors area with 5 hostages, 10 terrorists and 10 Counter-terrorists.

How does that sound?

Part1- The big box

You need to make your outdoors area from a box, damn, it`s starting to sound like all the other tutorials. But stick with it, i promise it`s not.
Firstly, goto the XY Top screen and click in the top left corner of it. Then drag down to the bottom right corner and let go of the mouse.
You have just created your first entity in QER. Some people dont count this as a valid entity but let me assure you that it is .... even though it`s totally useless as it stands.

Right, the first questions are flooding in, "oops Smitty, I made a mistake. What do I do now?"

To delete an entity, I use a keyboard shortcut, and here it is.... select the entity. Now press and hold the ALT key and press S followed by D. Voila, Entity deleted.

Now, you also need to know that an entity which is selected is shown as a red dashed line, and all other entities are shown as solid black lines(for now).
