Martin's Diary, Entry 4
At the Sports Centre I met up with Case and Lucas, who had been comparing notes. We decided
to join the others who were at the museum where Zebadiah works, as there were a whole bunch
of things to discuss. While the others checked over the two notes that had been found, I was able
to catch up on recent events as they had seen them.
The first bit of news concerns Terry's katana, in that it looks as if it is the work if a Japanese smith
called Ishikuro. This confirms that it is more than just some fancy replica, but not why Terry
should be carting it about with him.
The main story was that we had a new Angel in town, by the name of Faber. He had wandered
into the museum in the morning and when Zebadiah tried to check him out had introduced himself
as a Malakite of Eli, holder of the Word of Forge. He is in town to see an architectural friend. Or
at least, that was the plan at first.
Later Faber showed up at Dandelion's cafe, but at the back and trying to elude four men with
what looked like tranquiliser dart guns. She tries to help him (at this point believing him to be a
mortal), but despite her best efforts, and that of one of her assistants, they are able to make off
with him. Dandelion, however, was able to attune to Faber before she was knocked unconscious.
When she came to the Police were on the scene, but after a fairly cursory set of questions depart,
leaving her to give Zebadiah a call, on the basis of a flyer from the museum left behind in the
struggle. He is able to identify Faber, and she decides to go and see him. Zebadiah also calls
Bernard in (who informs Case and Nathaniel) and they all meet up at the museum.
Zebadiah, Case and Nathaniel, together with Dandelion, then head off to rescue Faber. Nathaniel
is, to say the least, less than happy about Dandelions presence, but given her attunement is the
way they are able to locate Faber, has to accept it.
The find him at a disused theater, the King's Head, and after persuading Dandelion not to join in
the fight, the three Malakim sneak in to the rescue. Not surprisingly a fight ensues, the net result
of which is that Faber is rescued, and the leader of the kidnap gang is a Celestial - in fact a Seraph.
It was also noted that he was careful to use only the flat of his blade when fighting.
The last bit of news is that Tony has managed to start getting a student on the right course -
morally, that is, rather than academically. Nathaniel and Lucas had first met her on a quick tour
of the city, when she had approached them to see if they were interested in any 'business'.
Nathaniel had found she had the potential to become a leading oceanographist, and could, in that
role, help form an ecological movement that could be of real benefit. The alternative was that she
would end up much as she was now, a low-class prostitute.
They had told Tony about her, and he had agreed to help. After talking to her (once he had
persuaded her that he was serious), he was able to convince her that she would do better as a
part-time researcher for him at the TV company. She agreed to at least give it a try, and promised
to go for an interview the next day.
While all this was going on, Faber began to come round. He explained that he was on his way to
see his friend, Sebastian Phas - which I recognized as one of the names on the cards in Mr.
Green's wallet. After some persuasion, Faber eventually admits that the reason he is here is that
Eli sent him a message to meet him here, and he took the opportunity to try and see a friend at
the same time.
Bernard and I decide that we need to find out what the Indian woman is up to, and head over to
the hotel she was last seen at. The car is still outside, but on investigation the driver is found to
be dead at the wheel. Leaving behind one dead body and it could have been suicide, two suggests
that Mr. Green was murdered (or forced to take his own life).
We go into the hotel and Bernard tries to talk his way round the desk clerk to get Hillary's room
number. He succeeds, but at a cost, realizing afterwards that he lied to do so, and must make
penance. The desk clerk is an elderly woman and has obvious ideas as to just what we are up to
wanting to visit a woman, who we know by description only, late in the evening...
We head up to her room, but from the window it looks empty, and this is confirmed after I get
the lock to open for us. The room has not been touched. Our mysterious woman must have simply
gone out by the back, long before we arrived. We leave to ponder our next move.
Later that night we get in contact with Tony, who has been upstairs to check the records on
Terry, or Teraphim as he is known Celestially. It turns out that Teraphim fell in the 2nd Century
AD, and is an ex-Michaelite - believed turned by Malphasians. Also in the file was a request from
Rigziel, Seraph of War, that should Teraphim be traced he is to be informed, as he "wants a word
with him". Tony dutifully goes and contacts Rigziel (after checking the files on him) and gives
him a copy of the new information on Terry. Rigziel is delighted to get the information, and Tony
suspects that if we don't do anything then Rigziel will soon deal with Terry.
This puts Bernard in a bit of a spot, as he had been coming to the decision that the best way of
making penance for his lie would be to defeat Terry, removing his infernal influence, at least
temporarily. We talk for a while, and in the end decide to act ourselves, engineering a motor
accident to destroy his physical body, and hopefully being ably to assault his celestial form via the
Song of Light should he manifest that.
We head over to Terry's hotel to check up on his car, and having checked I can get it to open and
disable the alarm systems as required, we head back to his workshops to make a few custom
additions. It is nearly dawn by the time we return, with devices to lock the power steering, cut the
brakes, jam the accelerator and activate the central locking! In these matters it pays to be
thorough, we decided.
We had just got clear when there was a distinct noise in the Symphony from across town. As if
on cue, Terry soon appeared, jumped into his sports car and raced off. I watched his progress
from the air, relaying this to Bernard in the car via my host there. After a few minutes a suitable
place appeared, as Terry accelerated down a long straight towards a sharp turn to round a
warehouse. Two thirds of the way along we activated the various items, and the car simply raced
into the side of the building. Terry never emerged.
I stayed about to check he had no miraculous survival when the emergency services arrived, but
all that was brought from the wreckage was a burnt corpse. Teraphim would not be interfering
on this world for a while, though if he realizes who was behind his accident, I feel he is the kind
who may well return to plague us.
