fault lines

A sheet of orange paper has nothing intrinsic to it; it's potential, but still unfolded, still unwritten. When Koumyou Sanzou folds it into a paper crane, it's a bird and a symbol against the clear blue sky, full of meaning and symbolism.

Kouryuu's cranes came apart, his folds and tucks insufficiently secure, his bird a mangled scrap of paper.

Eventually he got it right.

Night comes; the monsters enter.

Genjou Sanzou looks at his master's torn body, and he could fall apart as easily as a piece of origami, into a blank page marked by the lines of failed attempts.
