"Of course what I do with him is more important than this!" Rose shouted at her mother. "All this is just -- just -- little people doing little sad things and none of it matters, none! It's just ordinary stuff! I've helped save the universe! I've changed the flow of time! I've done things that were important, real things, not stuff like what you do!"
The words hung in the air between them, irreversible, unretractable.
"I wish you could hear yourself," Jackie said, and there was no anger in her voice, nothing Rose could have fought against, just long pain and resignation.
