Aang hasn't told Sokka and Katara this, but he is quite sure, absolutely convinced, that at some point they're going to run into more Airbenders.
They have to be out there somewhere. It's not as if they could all have been killed, after all.
And when he finds them, he's going to let them shout at him all they want for running away and hiding, because only family have the right to shout at you like that. Only family have the right to blame like that.
