nothing personal

"Don't take this the wrong way," Renji said. "I've got nothing against you personally."

"How kind," Fiona said frostily.

"I just get a bit nervous when I'm meeting devious manipulators who are masters of kidou," Renji said.

"Does this happen often?" Fiona asked, pouring him more tea.

"Well. It did sort of happen recently. Then he faked his death and betrayed everyone and half killed most of us and got away with the other bastards who were working with him."

Fiona pursed her lips. "Dear me, how very thoughtless of him. I can quite understand your situation. No wonder you feel nervous under these circumstances."

"Thanks," Renji said, and smiled.

"I mean," Fiona added, "leaving you alive afterwards and knowing what a traitor he was? You must be wondering if everyone you meet is secretly working for him."

Renji looked at her.

Fiona smiled a tiny smile and passed him the teacup. "Except me, of course."
