I have a long-standing interest in the history and philosophy of science and I speak and write regularly on science in society issues, particularly schools.

I recently advised the theatre company "Riding Lights" about funding (from Wellcome) to take their play "Science Friction" into schools and I toured with the company for much of latter part of the tour.

I studied Zoology (BSc, Reading University) and Pharmacology (MSc, Southampton University), and completed a PhD in pharmacology at Southampton University

I am a member of the Biomedical Advisory Committee of the Institute of Biology

I was also a council member of the Institute of Biology from 4/1997 to 4/2001 and was on the Editorial Board of Biologist, the IOB's journal (co-opted 1991, full board member 1992 to 1997)

I was a founding director and now an adviser to a Christian environmental charity The John Ray Initiative
