Having travellled to Honduras a couple of weeks after Hurricane "Mitch", things were a bit difficult, but after working with The local phone companies, to ensure recovery of service, I got a chance to risk a drive from SanPedro Sula, where I was working, to Copan, right up in the north.

Copan is a Mayan City, and is the largest in Honduras, with fantastic buildings and statues, all relatively well preserved or restored. Even in the midst of all the devastation, this was one of my life "high spots" !!!

Copan Ruinas.......A Hard Drive, but Wow!!

Travelling in Style

Hmmmm, the roa

As we travelled, we kept having to drive around bits of washed away road, or land-slides.

This in itself was OK, but on the way home it was dark....too......

During the hurricane, about five feet of rain fell in a week, and 11,000 people were killed.

I flew in to help get a comms system surveyed, and specified for the emergency services, and only had one day to travel......

d's a bit bumpy!!

Fantastic!

The floods caused by the hurricane got to within a few hundred yards of Copan, and the devastation could be clearly seen from the ruins.....

The city itself, is a fantastic monument to the Mayan people who built it, with its stone vaulted ceilings, and huge terraces......

Some of the city...

Bloodstone.....for head removals.......Hmmm!!!
