reside in North Lincolnshire in eastern England, located
at the southern end of the Humber Bridge (once the
worlds largest single-span suspension bridge), where there are many interesting old towns and
villages some of which date back almost 1,000 years. These include the dormitory market town of
Brigg, the steel town of Scunthorpe and historic Barton-on-Humber. John Harrison (of
Longitude fame) worked a few miles away in Barrow on Humber; the Pilgrim Fathers
original sailed from Killingholme. There are numerous rural villages and agriculture is very
important to the area. Historical Brigg is an important river-crossing which has been regenerated,
whilst Scunthorpe is a garden industrial town with some appealing parks and municipal golf courses,
and is a major steel producing town. There were countless WW2 American and British airbases in this region (known as "Bomber County"), and Humberside International Airport is close by at Kirmington. The busy ports of Grimsby and Immingham handle major RORO container traffic as well as car import/ exports. The South Bank of the Humber is home to several gas-fired CCGT power stations and neighbouring petro-chemical refineries (Conoco Humber Refinery). For shopping facilities, it would be true to say that Scunthorpes precincts have declined somewhat whilst Grimsby has thrived. The smaller towns of Brigg and Barton-on-Humber are reasonably served by sole traders and supermarkets. The road network is quite good, and includes motorway links plus the Humber Bridge to Hull and the North Bank. The area is served by local radio stations Lincs FM (Lincoln) and Viking FM (Hull), whilst Yorkshire TV covers this region. Local press includes the Grimsby and Scunthorpe Telegraphs.
