• Humberside International Airport (HIA) boasts a new and modern Fire Station which houses three sophisticated Boughton Barracuda Fire Tenders, always on permanent stand-by.
  • The HIA Fire Service must, by law, be able to reach the scene of a crash within two minutes. Equipped with the Boughton Barracuda, they can easily do that.
  • A Fire Service control tower monitors the runways and is always permanently manned by Fire Crew. The control tower contains the "Crash Alarm".
  • The Fire Station also contains training and lecture facilites, as well as a gymnasium and recreation facility. HIA Fire Cew often have another skill, e.g. as an electrician, fitter or decorator, so that they can perform other maintenance duties around the airport.

The Boughton Barracuda Fire Tender Here it is - straight out of Thunderbirds! The Boughton Barracuda in all its glory! Note the massive foam/ water cannon (Monitor) on the cab and a smaller monitor on the front fender for incidental fires. The Barracuda is rear-engined, six-wheel drive - as you'll see! (In the original photo, it was surrounded by burnt out wreckage, until I retouched it.) Read on...
The HIA Fire Station is a brand new facility adjacent to the main runways, so that the Barracuda Fire Tenders can easily reach any part of the airfield quickly. Fire Station on standby
