A little about myself
About Me : Bio : Local stuff : Rants & Raves : Book Choices
I am a freelance technical writer/ designer writing about technology, computers and the Internet. Amongst other things I am the On-line Editor of Everyday Practical Electronics (EPE) magazine in the UK. I maintain the EPE web site, try to help out with readers’ electronics-related queries in my “Circuit Surgery” magazine column, and I do a wide variety of Internet-related work. I write the popular “Net Work” Internet feature, and I also do sub-contract web design and copy writing. I try to deal with readers’ E-mail but cannot always promise a reply due to pressure of work.

I enjoy prototyping and fabricating high-quality electronics projects in the workshop, working from scratch and often refining the circuitry as well. The entire project-building process was illustrated in my magazine series "Build Your Own Projects" (EPE Magazine, Nov. 96 to March 97) and the photographs are currently being retaken and updated, this time in colour. I produced the constructional elements of the "PhizzyB" virtual computer/ CD ROM in partnership with its American designers.

I wrote the famous Basic Soldering Guide which is now a major source of reference on the Internet. The delicate manual skills of soldering and desoldering are also depicted on-line in a series of highly-acclaimed colour photos. A new series is currently under development, along with a number of educational teaching aids, movies and colour photos for sale on CD ROM, to help novices and students develop the skills of soldering.
